Kaia String Quartet ( LMF Ensemble in Residence) consists of Victoria Moreira (violin), Naomi Culp (violin), Sixto Franco Chordá (viola), and Hope Shepherd DeCelle (cello). “Kaia,” deriving from Greek, Gaia for Earth/Goddess of the Earth, represents the ensemble’s mission to promote music of cultures from around the world, with their current focus on Latin American music, in addition to being active performers of the traditional canon of quartet music. With their current focus on exploring the music of Latin American composers, both contemporary and traditional, the quartet has had the opportunity to collaborate with many composers and performers. They are regular guest artists at the Latino Music Festival of Chicago, Western Piedmont Symphony Chamber series, and the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art where they will begin a residency in the fall of 2016. The quartet will also tour Uruguay and Argentina in the fall of 2016 in support of their new album, QUARTANGO.
